Continuing Professional Development
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a combination of approaches, ideas and techniques that will help you manage your own learning and growth.
The primary aim of CPD is to continue expanding your knowledge of your chosen discipline once you have completed your standard academic learning.
CPD is a means for professionals to continue to learn and keep abreast of current practise and new initiatives without having to return to the classroom.
Why should I keep a CPD record?
As a Professional Technician or Engineer, you have a responsibility to keep your skills and knowledge up to date and for those who have (or wish to have) Engineering Council Registration it is mandatory. CPD enables you to turn this requirement into a positive opportunity to identify and achieve your own career objectives and reflect on your on-going learning.
How to keep CPD...
The Welding Institute offers its members access to an online recording tool 'mycareerpath'. This option allows you to not only record and reflect on CPD activities but upload evidence and have your records sent for review; all of which are very important for membership of The Welding Institute and Engineering Council Registration.
Once you become a member of the Institute, you will gain access to this online CPD planner via the Members' Portal.
