The Welding Institute

Code of Conduct and Ethical Principles

As a member of The Welding Institute, you will be required to follow the Institute’s Code of Conduct and to act in a way that abides by the Engineering Council’s Statement of Ethical Principles. All members affirm their ongoing commitment through the annual renewal of their membership.

Maintaining respect for the profession requires a strong, shared commitment to professional conduct. The Institute’s Code of Conduct is aimed at defining the standards of behaviour expected within the engineering community. It outlines what is expected of professional technicians and engineers, and offers guidance to anyone seeking an ethical path when navigating the many, often competing, demands of modern society.

The Code of Conduct is reviewed regularly to ensure it remains relevant and effective for today’s engineering profession. The document also details the Rights to Appeal.
